Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4 Days & 3 Nights

We highly recommended arriving at least one day prior to the tour in order to acclimatize to the altitude prior to the trek. A full day spent in Cusco (3249m/10659 ft), taking it easy and drinking plenty of water, is usually enough time for most people to acclimatize.

Itinerary

Welcome to the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the most iconic trek in Peru, a 4-day journey that combines stunning Andean landscapes, cloud forests, and ancient Inca archaeological sites. Starting from Cusco at Km 82, this classic trail leads you through valleys, rivers, and high mountain passes, including the challenging Warmiwañusca, or Dead Woman’s Pass, at 4,198m (13,769 ft).

Along the way, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu  reveals centuries of history, with ruins such as Runquraqay, Phuyupatamarca, and Wiñay Wayna before reaching the Sun Gate at dawn. The grand finale is entering Machu Picchu itself, where a guided tour brings the lost citadel to life. More than just a trek, it’s a life-changing experience that connects you with the heart of the Andes.

Continue through cloud forest to the second pass (3,700m / 12,136 ft) with stunning vistas of the Urubamba Valley.

At 3,650m (11,972 ft), explore Phuyupatamarca, the “town above the clouds,” or continue to Wiñay Wayna, “forever young,” at 2,650m (8,694 ft), where you’ll camp close to Machu Picchu.
